Mass Casualty Shooting - Erie, PA

The Vigil Response: Readiness is everything in times of crisis. In less than 2 hours after learning about the critical incident that occurred in Erie, PA, 2 of our CISM teams were en route Saturday afternoon to support the community’s vigil. Our teams stepped directly into the high-stress environment to offer immediate comfort and support, creating connections that opened the door for continued support. Our teams were invited to come back the following Monday.

The Return Support: Following up on our weekend response Monday morning, 3 CISM teams returned to Erie. We focused our care on the first responders and individuals working behind the scenes on the frontlines—stopping by at the UMPC Health Plan Neighborhood Center, 911 dispatch, and the Erie Police Department. Being able to support these individuals and provide comfort, calm, and care in these moments of healing through our canines was a profound privilege.
