Why join the Crisis Canine Corps?

As a member of the Crisis Canine Corps (CCC), you and your canine become a vital source of healing. While standard therapy visits bring joy to everyday settings, our trained teams step into the aftermath of life-altering events to provide a unique kind of comfort. Your role is to be the “calm in the chaos” - offering a grounded, non-judgmental presence to survivors, first responders, medical personnel, and community members when words simply aren't enough.

We are also equally committed to proactive community engagement. Our teams participate in local outreach, wellness fairs, educational events, and so much more to build resilience and share the healing power of our 4-legged friends.

Whether serving as the “calm in the chaos” or providing a supportive presence at a community gathering, our teams provide comfort, calm, and care when it matters most.

  • Canine is currently certified through a nationally recognized therapy dog organization

  • Canine holds both AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and AKC Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA) certifications

  • Handler is at least 18 years of age

  • Handler is willing to represent Crisis Canine Corps professionally during volunteer activities, training opportunities, and deployments

To maintain the highest standards of safety and professionalism, all
teams joining Crisis Canine Corps must meet the qualifications below.

Crisis Response Environment Notice

Crisis Canine Corps teams may be asked to support individuals and communities experiencing grief, trauma, or other high‑stress situations. Handlers and their canines must be comfortable working in emotionally intense environments that may include large groups of people, emergency personnel, and active community response operations.

Application Process

  • Complete the Crisis Canine Corps application

  • Upload documentation for your therapy dog certification, CGC, and CGCA credentials

  • Upload documentation of current vaccination record with application

Step 1 - Submit an application

Step 2 - Handler/Canine Evaluation

  • Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule a handler/canine evaluation conducted by a Crisis Canine Corps team evaluator. During this session we observe how the handler and canine work together in environments similar to those encountered during crisis response activities.

Step 3 - Acceptance and Orientation

  • Teams who successfully complete the evaluation will receive onboarding information and next steps for joining Crisis Canine Corps.

We are looking for applicants who understand that advocating for the mission and helping us raise funds is just as critical as our mission. If you are passionate about the impact of crisis canines and are ready to help us build the resources needed to keep this mission alive, we would love to see your application.
